Innovation aimed at safety and enjoyment

Innovation has always been at the heart of our company.

Yesterday’s bold technology and genius ideas have given way to more advanced technologies in regard to research and development. These technologies allow for tire performance to be improved, providing for increased enjoyment and safety while riding your motorcycle.

Milestones in innovation

  • 1970

    Riders Jack Findlay and Guido Mandracci carry out the very first trials with a slick tire on the Misano Circuit race track.

  • 1983

    Michelin’s first Dakar Rally victory with Hubert Auriol on a BMW. A honeycombed foam coil called “Bib Mousse” emerges, replacing the inner tube.

  • 1984

    Michelin tests its first radial tyres at the Moto GP.

  • 1987

    Michelin markets the first radial tire on mass-produced motorbikes: MICHELIN A59X / M59X.

  • 1992

    Michelin introduces 100% silica-reinforced rubber derived from key Michelin Group research

  • 1995

    The first dual-compound tire in GP 500. The MICHELIN 2CT dual-compound technology helps Michelin stand out even more amongst  competitors.

  • 2005

     MICHELIN Power Race is the first 2CT hypersport tire made with a variety of rubber on the tire's center and shoulders. It becomes the first racing tire approved for the road featuring dual compounds.

  • 2009

    AST (Asymmetric Technology) technology enables MICHELIN Power One Competition 16.5" to become the first pneumatic tire of its kind to adapt to various constraints imposed upon each side of a pneumatic tire, depending on whether the race track contains more left or right-hand turns.

  • 2011

    MICHELIN Pilot Road 3 becomes the first motorcycle package to offer the XST X-Sipe technology, guaranteeing unmatched grip on wet surfaces.

  • 2014

     2AT (Dual Advanced Technology) technology, which combines the performance and qualities of Bias and radial structures, appears on the Pilot Road 4 GT designed for large, powerful, and heavy touring cars.
